In this year Hungarian Women's NGOs are organizing again the
Silent witnesses’ procession for the memory of the victims of domesticviolence
The 16 Days of Action (16 Days of Action Against Violence Against Women) has been organized worldwide every year since 1991, between the 25th of November (the International Day of Abolition of Violence Against Women) and the 10th of December (Human Rights’ Day) by non-governmental organizations and individualsin order to raise public awareness on the seriousness of violence against women; to express solidarity for the victims and to put pressure on politicians and law enforcementto stop every forms of violence against women.
To express solidarity for victims, hundreds of thousands of people are wearing purple ribbons(the symbol of rejecting domestic violence), and white ribbons(the symbol of men's movement against violence against women).
Procession in Budapest
This year we organize again a procession which remembers victims of domestic violence, who have been murdered by their partner this year and raises awareness on the importance of fighting against violent crimes that affect women.
The procession is the opening event of the Hungarian 16 Days of Action Against the Violence Against Women.
Programme of 26th November, Saturday:
The situation of violence against women in 2011: the participating organizations make a presentation of this year; rememberance of the women who died because of domestic violence in the last 12 months.

For everyone who is interested and doesn’t speak Hungarian, organization MONA (Foundation for the Women in Hungary) offers special support to participate in the event - the representatives of MONA will
meet up with you before the event, you can walk together to the opening, hear the presentations interpreted into English and then follow the procession.
