Message board and a round-table discussion

November 25 Péntek

November 25th is International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. As students of the Gender Studies department we are organizing a message board and a round-table discussion on violence against women.

The message board, postcards and pencils will be available beginning with Friday, 11:00, in the Oktogon area and stay up throughout HRSI's 16 Day Campaign against Gender Violence. Help make this issue visible by writing/drawing/pasting together an anonymous message about the ways in which the phenomenon has affected you, your concrete solutions or utopian hopes for putting a stop to types of violent acts and systems that disproportionately affect women, how/whether the concept of "violence against women" should be reframed/redefined. Post a link, photo, quote, book title, author’s name. The message board project was inspired by the blog, a community art project which makes visible just how great is the silence that accompanies people everyday and the possibilities opened up by breaking it in some way. Join us in making the idea work in the CEU context.

The round-table will take place in the Auditorium, from 15:30 to 18:00.There will be short presentations on policy and feminist strategies of dealing with violence against women in different national contexts (see attached poster). In organizing this, we hope to generate a discussion on activism and advocacy that benefits from the critical input and experiences of students and faculty from the Gender Studies department. It's true, there won't be pogacsas, but there might be the beginning of a broader discussion about how some of the issues salient in the gender studies classes should/can be of greater concern for the whole CEU community. So, please come contribute to the talk on Friday!
